The DEC and a representative from the NYS Atty General's office will present information about closing the Akzo Nobel desalination plant in Cuylerville. The meeting is happening at the request of Livingston County Town Supervisors. Questions from the audience will be allowed.
There is concern about corruption of an aquifer, soil stability and local water wells if treatment ceases. AND THE RELIABILITY OF THE ALPHA GEOSCIENCE REPORT MAY BE QUESTIONABLE. The lack of transparency of NYS to the county and towns is troubling.
Some may wonder how this issue affects them. The issue strikes a raw nerve, knowing the DEC has been negotiating with a mining company for two years without including any local officials. The DEC is willing to essentially sell our aquifer for two million dollars. If one brings the hydrofracking debate into the equation, the concern deepens. Many feel the DEC is the department that stands as a buffer between our resources and mining companies. This is a stark example that the DEC is not representing our interests. How can we trust a state department that does not willingly include the local community regarding our own water resources?

EARTH VIGIL
Join the nationwide event, Draw the Line on Keystone XL
organized by 350.org
Downtown Rochester, corner of Exchange and West Broad, in front of the Gannett Building where the Democrat and Chronicle is published.
The Rochester event is initiated by the Rochester Zen Center and The Lost Bird Project. Through a meditation presence in environmental demonstrations and show that silence can speak loudly.
The message is a plea for the media to give a higher priority to covering environmental issues, which are the most critical issues of our time and are currently grossly underreported.
Only 1.2 % of all the media coverage in the United States is about the environment, while sports coverage is 22.7%.
The Gannett Company could help effect this change. In addition to our local Democrat and Chronicle, their holdings include USA Today, 82 other newspapers, 23 TV stations, and a web news network that reaches 52 million readers monthly.
Earth Vigil is asking the media to join us in the job of raising awareness about our changing climate. The American public deserves nothing less.
The more participants, the louder will be our voice and the more likely we will be heard. No prior meditation experience is needed. We will provide cushions for sitting (small beach balls!) but please bring a blanket for sitting on. As there will be no rain date, dress appropriately for the weather.
Help with transportation ids available. There will be a bus at the Rochester Zen Center, 7 Arnold Park, for anyone wishing to park their car and join the group. The bus will leave promptly at 9:15 am, and return at noon.

Rush Public Hearing on Local Law #3,
An Amendment to Zoning:
Proposed law is a ban on natural gas drilling-related activities in the Town of Rush.
The Town has had a moratorium in place since 3/28/12.
Rush Town Board Meeting (Monroe County)
Rush Town Hall, 5977 East Henrietta Rd., Rush NY, 14543.
The Rush Town Hall is on southwest corner of the intersection of
Route 251 and Route 15A (E. Henrietta Road).
Park in either the Town Hall lot off of Rte. 15A, or if that is full, in the Library lot off of Rte. 251.
The Town Board is permitted to vote on the bill directly following the hearing and will likely do so. Please consider attending the hearing to show your support. If you speak and you are not a Rush resident, we urge you to focus your comments on the impact that Rush's decision will have on surrounding communities, especially your own, given that the water and air pollution, truck traffic, and other deleterious impacts of fracking do not obey municipal boundaries. Even if you choose not to speak, your presence will lend visible support to our efforts.

Seneca Lake Flotilla II
Departs at Noon
from the Kayak Shack at the Watkins Glen Village Marina, 2 Seneca Harbor, Watkins Glen 14891
Flotilla II is a chance to show our CONTINUED RESISTANCE to the Inergy LPG facility,
that we are not a drop in the pond, but are a wave that is gaining momentum!
Like the event in June, Flotilla II is a water-borne protest in defense of clean air and water, and a shout of our commitment to stopping the Inergy project.
This Flotilla is another fundraiser for the
Seneca Lake Emergency Legal Defense Fund.
Gas Free Seneca and Earthjustice have teamed up to mount a legal challenge to the Inergy project. Though Earthjustice is working pro-bono, retaining expert witnesses is very expensive.
We are asking participants to try to raise $100 in pledges for their boat.
Donations are not required to be part of the Flotilla, but are vital to taking legal action.
Checks can be made out to Sustainable Markets Foundation, with Gas Free Seneca in the Memo Line. Once again, life jackets are required, and all vessels are welcome.
Please support SAVE SENECA LAKE and Gas Free Seneca however you can!!!

GASLAND PART II (2 hours),
premiered at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival,
shows how the stakes have been raised on all sides in one of
the most important environmental issues facing our nation today.
The film argues that the gas industry’s portrayal of natural gas as
a clean and safe alternative to oil is a myth and that
fracked wells inevitably leak over time, contaminating water and air, hurting families,
and endangering the earth’s climate with the potent greenhouse gas, methane.
In addition the film looks at how the powerful oil and gas industries are in Fox's words
"contaminating our democracy".
Join us to see this film and get connected to others around resistance!
Representatives from R-CAUSE will be on hand to lead the discussion.

New York stands at a crossroads; this is our moment to decide the course of history.
On Wednesday, June 17, 1885, the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor, where she has stood as our nation’s symbol of freedom ever since.
On Monday, June 17, 2013, citizens from across New York—from Long Island to Niagara Falls—will arrive in Albany to demand freedom from dirty energy, calling on Governor Cuomo to reject fracking and lead the nation in constructing a renewable energy economy here and now in New York.
At this march and rally, the anti-fracking movement will, for the first time, join with business leaders, faith leaders, health professionals, elected officials, farmers, and youth to demand the renewable energy jobs that our families and communities want and deserve.
New York is at a crossroads. In one direction: more ruinous dependency on dirty, dangerous fossil fuels. This path requires we blow apart the bedrock of our state and inject it with toxic chemicals. Providing only temporary, dangerous jobs, it leads to accidents, explosions, poisoned water, polluted air, contaminated food, public health disasters and climate catastrophe. This road chains us to the past and ransoms our children’s future. Running in the other direction is the road to renewable energy based on wind, water, and sunlight. This path leaves our communities unfractured and provides long-term, safe jobs to New Yorkers. This path creates an infrastructure that will not cost us the water we drink, the air we breathe or the health of our children. This path will make New York a leader in energy independence and, once more, a beacon of hope for the world. This path is the one we demand because our lives literally depend on it.
Governor Cuomo has said, "We will not allow the national paralysis over climate change to stop us from pursuing the necessary path for the future."
We agree. Here in New York, where we have watched our subways fill with seawater and witnessed Hurricanes Irene, Lee and Sandy wash away our communities, we now call on our governor to reject the climate-destroying practice of fracking and take aggressive strides towards a 100% renewable energy economy.
On June 17th, we invite people from every corner of New York State to gather at the State Capitol in Albany. Here, we will stand united to demand that Governor Cuomo reject fracking and blaze a trail to a renewable energy future.
Join us for this historic event as we rally in the East Capitol Lawn and march in the streets surrounding the Capitol building. The moment of power is now!
Sponsored by New Yorkers Against Fracking, Food & Water Watch, Frack Action, Catskill Mountainkeeper, United for Action, NYPIRG, Citizens Environmental Coalition, Alliance for a Green Economy and many more to be announced!

Fracking Lobby Day
for the 2 Year Fracking Moratorium
State Capital, Albany
The New York State legislative session is ending next month, and the NYS Senate has still not taken any action to protect New York from fracking. Citizens Campaign for the Environment and its partners need you to come to Albany and demand action on a fracking moratorium this session!
In response to overwhelming public pressure, legislation was introduced in both the Assembly and Senate to enact a two-year moratorium on fracking, which would allow for a comprehensive health impact assessment of fracking to be completed. The Assembly has already acted, and now it is time for the Senate to pass the bill!
Join us in Albany and tell the NYS Senate that we need a moratorium on fracking tied to a health study. We can't do this without you. Won't you join us?
REGISTER NOW!
Schedule:
There will be a briefing in the morning, and then participants will be divided into teams to have legislative visits. Participating in Fracking Lobby Day is free, and no experience is required!

RALLY IN THE GLEN:
BREAKING NEWS:
Sandra Steingraber, Jack Ossont and 9 others arrested this morning (3/18) at entrance to Inergy's Compressor Station & Gas Storage Facility, just north or Watkins Glen:
http://ourfutureisunfractured.wordpress.com/
KEEP LPG STORAGE and
GAS INDUSTRY INFRASTRUCTURE OUT OF SENECA LAKE!!
NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE:
NOTE! Due to the size of the expected crowd, and out of respect for Park Officials, they are changing the Rally starting point! Rally will start at the Watkins Village Marina, 2 Seneca Harbor, Watkins Glen, NY 14891 rather than at the Gorge entrance! Please be there!!!!
Seneca Lake: the source of drinking water for 100,000 people and a source of imperative beauty for us all. If you can't get there by 5:00, you can catch up along the route.
Our unifying message to DEC, FERC, and all our elected representatives is this:
defend our home and keep it safe or we will defend it ourselves.
The theme of the rally will focus on the abundant,
sustainable bounty we cherish here in the Finger Lakes.
Bring with you an item that you think represents that bounty:
a bottle of wine, a brick of locally made cheese, maple syrup, honey,
a muffin from a local bed and breakfast, your fishing pole, your swimming goggles,
anything from our region that means something to you.
Organized by Gas Free Seneca

Tell the Governor that everything about this regulation process is wrong:
it is backward, undemocratic, hasty, and irrational.
A secret, 25-hour health review? Shockingly inadequate.
An industry-influenced sGEIS? Fatally flawed.
And cart-before-the-horse rulemaking? Un-fracking-believable!!

After the rally make a visit to the Legislative Office Building and Capitol
